Living with Fire: The Future of Our Forests

Living with Fire: The Future of Our Forests

Join Big Thompson Watershed Coalition for Living with Fire: The Future of Our Forests, a pub talk and panel discussion at City Star Brewing in Berthoud.

Fire has always been part of Colorado’s forests, but decades of fire exclusion, changing climate conditions, land management decisions, and growing development in the wildland-urban interface have changed how fire moves through our landscapes. As communities across the Northern Front Range continue to face increasing wildfire risk, we need to think not only about how we reduce risk, but how we prepare our forests and communities to live with fire.

This panel will bring together representatives from Big Thompson Watershed Coalition, The Nature Conservancy, Colorado State Forest Service, and the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute for a conversation about what healthier, more resilient forest systems could look like in Northern Colorado. Panelists will discuss the current condition of our forests, the role of forest management and prescribed fire, the importance of preparing forests before wildfire occurs, and the social challenges that come with bringing fire back as a tool for restoration and resilience.

The discussion will also explore how communities, private landowners, agencies, and local partners can work together to support more fire-adapted landscapes. From forest thinning and defensible space to prescribed fire, planning, and public engagement, this conversation will focus on the steps, challenges, and opportunities involved in building a more resilient future.

This is a chance to learn, ask questions, and engage in an important conversation about what it means to live with fire in the Northern Front Range.

BTWC will buy the first beer for the first 20 people who RSVP on Eventbrite and attend the event!
